The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. Since 1996, DYCD has been committed to supporting programs for marginalized communities and New Yorkers of all ages—from afterschool and youth employment to housing support, senior services, food pantries, and more. DYCD serves upwards of 360,000 New Yorkers annually through high quality initiatives such as COMPASS1, the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), Beacon and Cornerstone Community Centers, Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS), Adult Literacy and Immigrant Services, and Runaway and Homeless Youth Services.

The NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is releasing a concept paper to obtain feedback that will assist with the development of an upcoming request for proposals (RFP) for the Boxing Community Center. This concept paper is the precursor to Requests for Proposals (RFP) to be released by the Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) in 2025 for a single contract award to operate a specialized Boxing Community Center located in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Van Dyke Community Center located in Brownsville at 392 Blake Avenue in Brooklyn, NY 11212.

The Center will provide services to the following participant groups:

  • Brownsville residents ages of all ages and genders. DYCD anticipates that most participants will be middle school students or older. However, the contractor may provide services at the facility for younger children as well, provided the activities are age-appropriate and safe. Residents of the Van Dyke Houses will be expected to comprise at least 51 percent of the Center’s participants. All residents may use equipment and facilities at the Center during the morning operating hours from 9am to 2pm.  Residents will also be able to access case management services offered during the afternoon hours.

  • High-risk participants. These participants will be youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 years, living in Brownsville, who are at significant risk for involvement in crime and violence due to disengagement from the wider community. They will comprise at least 51 percent of the Center’s participants per day.
