Summary
The Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF) is soliciting for a qualified Contractor to provide a new valve and loop system for the Primary Scum Flushing Loop. The project shall generally include Contractor supplying new equipment, removal of existing pipe sections and couplers, and replacement with new pipe sections, couplers, and new valves, to manufacturer specifications to allow the sludge and water through the intake manifold of the Scum Pumps for high volume cleaning and flushing. The contractor shall complete all work as outlined in this Invitation for Bid (IFB).
Background
Currently the flushing system utilizes a 6" scum line from the Primary Clarifier to the DAF tanks and without regular flushing the solids can get compacted, causing pumps to overload and shut off. The system only provides back flushing to the pumps with very little head pressure to scour or push the solids forward. The system has a valve between the Primary Clarifier, DAFT tanks, and Gravity Thickener so that if necessary, the sludge that is normally sent to the Gravity Thickener can be sent directly to the DAF tanks. This allows the Gravity Thickener to be shut down for annual maintenance/refurbishing.
A new valve and loop system will allow sludge and water through the intake manifold of the Scum Pumps for high volume cleaning and flushing to avoid solid buildups that stop the Scum Pumps. It is anticipated that the new valve and loop system will significantly reduce maintenance and down time.
