DAFI 36-2646 identifies a requirement for a virtual weapon simulator as a basic delivery method for Security Forces Training. Enables realistic, interactive weapons training to improve marksmanship skills. Enables Congressionally mandated Shoot/No Shoot training in a safe environment. Provides opportunity for additional/remedial firing classes while saving Air Force resources like live ammunition and range maintenance.
DAFI 36-2646 3.13.4.2. Weapons Simulator. A training device that permits development and practice of the necessary skills for accomplishing operational tasks, to a prescribed standard of competency, in a specific prime mission system and duty position. Weapons training simulators are required to create use of force engagement scenarios that allows Defenders to train to defend the installation from all levels of threat. The simulator allows all Airmen to improve tactical weapons employment with all the weapons that are assigned to the unit's mission. Furthermore, all Airmen that conduct marksmanship training can use this tool to enhance their ability to be successful on the live fire range. The weapons simulator is a great refresher tool that improves muscle memory for Airmen that fire less frequently. The space needed is dependent on the system and weapons employed for the designated mission requirement. Data Sheet is located in Attachment 3.
The virtual weapon simulator would require software and hardware components that include mixed reality combat simulator, AI-Powered after-action review, smart AI enemies through simulation, head mounted displays, weapon sensors, weapon simulators with recoil, KWA LM4 weapon, including KWA LM4 weapon magazines, command terminal laptop, WiFi enabled, feedback suits, and the system must include a warranty. System would be required to allow 4 individuals (the size of a fire team) to work simultaneously, or be able to be used by one person (for training purposes). Haptic Feedback suits are also a requirement, as current systems do not give any indication of being struck by enemy fire. The suits would allow for trainees to feel if they have been struck by enemy fire, giving immediate response and demand a reaction, enhancing their training experience. Having a system that scans the real-life environment is required, as this would allow for the system to be used in numerous different buildings, allowing for diversity in the training environment which would increase the effectiveness in training and allow for trainees to be used to different environments, directly contributing to real-life.
