Upgrades and Additions to Media Innovation Center

Introduction

SUNY Old Westbury is seeking request for Qualifications to o expand, renovate and equip the television/film/video studios within the SUNY Old Westbury Media Innovation Center (MIC) and Radio Station.

Scope of Services

1. Electrical Services — Investigate and install equipment to condition electrical

services to entire facility to improve daily conditioning of the electrical service and to

enhance protection from surges, etc.

1. Renovation of Studio B — Complete the renovation of Studio B into a space for

emerging media technology, including a 360° and volumetric video for VR production;

consider CYC wall/green screen solutions; acoustic upgrade, projector for screenings,

working teaching station, etc. Add more storage.

1. Enhance Campus Newsroom — Add windows and wall coverings, install wireless

network, add technology specific to news gathering and production, and furniture and

design improvements common to educational newsrooms that we improved through

earlier investment.

1. Radio Station — Upgrade technology, equipment and furniture and spaces that

serve the campus’ student-operated radio station.

1. Improvements to Studio A — add sound proofing/acoustic upgrade, replace

curtains, add to lighting grid, improve floor, improve sets/backdrops, install a digital

wall, add rolling table for DJ station, connect DJ station to sound board in control room,

mini jib, and camera upgrades if/as needed.

1. Digital Network — Development of the infrastructure and tools to establish a

feed from the control room to the studio and all MIC ancillary rooms, network news

feeds, and a channel that can be accessed across campus; upgrade and improve

DAM/project management (building prior investment in same).

1. Field Production Kits — Create prosumer video/TV/audio field production kits to

support classes/ extracurricular activities and promote professional-level student media productions.

1. TV Studio Control Room — Technology upgrades and protective improvements,

as needed, as well as improvement on physical design of the room.

1. Podcasting Studio — Complete work initiated in prior renovation to the campus’

podcasting studio/ narration booth.

1. General Technical and Physical Improvements — Replace workstations in

editing suite and other desktops as appropriate. Replacing consumer-rated televisions

with professional-grade televisions. Continue to improve lighting, acoustics, and

cosmetic and furniture upgrades throughout the Center, including the installation of

windows in spaces that are currently without (greenroom, editing suite, etc.). Expand

the flooring in the entrance and remaining portion of the G-Wing to match with the

completed renovation in the earlier work.

1. Sound Attenuation – Evaluation of needs and specific types that align to fulfill each area where appropriate. Specifications and construction management of installs.

Procurement Budget

$1,000,000.00 to 1,400,000.00 for all parts.
