PROJECT BACKGROUND
University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics is a premier Canadian intercollegiate program that is well recognized around the world. The Golden Bears and Pandas compete in U SPORTS, the governing body of Canadian University Athletics, and are home to twenty three (23) teams with over 500 student-athletes and more than 8,000 Athletic Alumni. The University competes in Basketball, Cross-Country, Curling, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Rugby, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, and Wrestling.
Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics has maintained one of the most comprehensive, wide-ranging, consistent and successful programs in Canadian university sport. Some Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics accomplishments include:
● Golden Bears hockey holds the record for the most national championships, with sixteen (16).
● Pandas hockey holds a similar distinction with eight (8) national championship titles.
● Pandas rugby is the most successful in their sport and hold seven (7) national championship banners.
● Pandas volleyball is the second most successful women’s volleyball program, with seven (7) national championships.
● Both Pandas Tennis (5) and Pandas Curling (6) have won the most national titles in their sports history.
● To this day, the University has also won at least one national championship in thirty one (31) consecutive years, which is the longest current streak in the nation.
● A total of eighty four (85) U SPORTS and one hundred and three (103) national championships have been won by University Golden Bears and Pandas student-athletes, while over three hundred and fifty (350) individual championship medals have been won.
● The U of A is the only school in Canada to have won a national title in all U SPORTS competitions (basketball, soccer, field hockey, football, ice hockey, curling, wrestling, volleyball, track and field, cross-country and rugby).
The Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics programs are incredibly successful in both athletic competition, and academically. Since the introduction of the Academic All-Canadian program in 1990, which honours university students who are achieving an equivalent of 80% or better in their studies while competing full-time on a university varsity team, the University has produced the highest number of Academic All-Canadians in the country with 3,999.
The combination of leading the country in Academic All-Canadian numbers and being one of the top three in national championship history has made the U of A Athletics program unique and a leader among other universities.
OPPORTUNITY
The University is seeking a supplier partnership with mutually beneficial brand building programs supported by innovative and creative marketing initiatives. This contract would fall under a Preferred Supplier Agreement (PSA). The University is inviting Proposals for the supply of Athletic Apparel, Accessories and Equipment from brand manufacturers, authorized retail distributors, and / or licensees of athletic brand apparel. The intent is to implement a non-exclusive agreement to support the Department of Athletics within the Dean of Students, however, other faculties and departments requesting branded athletic apparel may utilize this agreement when required.
The estimated total spend of these products is approximately $445,000.00 annually with the potential to be higher.
The University intends to issue an Agreement for an initial four (4) year term with the option to renew for an additional two (2) three (3) year extensions. Such renewal options would be considered based on satisfactory performance in the initial term and mutual agreement for subsequent terms.
While it is the intent of the University to award a non-exclusive agreement to a single supplier the University reserves the right at its sole and unfettered discretion to award multiple contracts. In the interest of continuity and transparency there have been discussions surrounding awarding one contract for jerseys and the other for side line apparel based on presented offerings by potential proponents.
