Summary
The City of Richmond is soliciting bids to establish term contracts with one or more experienced contractors to provide construction, maintenance, emergency response, and technical support services. Services may include, but are not limited to, installation of traffic signal foundations; span wire, mast arm, and pedestal signal poles; electrical conduits; traffic signal and fiber optic cabling; junction boxes; communications equipment; traffic signal cabinets and controllers; signal heads; countdown pedestrian signal heads; vehicle and pedestrian detection systems; flashers; and other transportation-related equipment as required by the City.
Background
The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Works, Transportation Engineering Division (TED), is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and advancement of critical transportation infrastructure throughout the city. This includes 486 signalized intersections, 61 school flashers, 25 Speed Feedback Flashers, 15 Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons, 2 Flood Warning System, and 26 warning flashers/beacons. TED also maintains 117 CCTV surveillance cameras, approximately 10 miles of twisted-pair copper cable, 85 miles of fiber optic cable, 15 cellular modems, and 61 wireless radio communication devices. In addition, the Division supports a wide range of vehicle detection technologies, including inductive loops, video detection cameras, 360-degree detection systems, and radar equipment.
Through this contract, the City seeks to ensure responsive, high-quality, and technically proficient support for its evolving transportation network while maintaining operational readiness for both routine and emergency service needs.
