Background

The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Works, Transportation Engineering Division (TED), is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and advancement of critical transportation infrastructure throughout the city. This includes 486 signalized intersections, 61 school flashers, 25 Speed Feedback Flashers, 15 Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons, 2 Flood Warning System, and 26 warning flashers/beacons. TED also maintains 117 CCTV surveillance cameras, approximately 10 miles of twisted-pair copper cable, 85 miles of fiber optic cable, 15 cellular modems, and 61 wireless radio communication devices. In addition, the Division supports a wide range of vehicle detection technologies, including inductive loops, video detection cameras, 360-degree detection systems, and radar equipment.
