23-1664 The Supply and delivery of Sodium Bisulphite for the City of Calgary Water Treatment plants

Sodium Bisulphite is used at Water Treatment Plants to dechlorinate the water treatment process waste streams before entering the Bow and Elbow rivers during intense runoff events, plant shut-downs or other emergencies.

Due to the nature of Sodium Bisulphite, The City of Calgary Water Treatment plants have the ability to store the chemical for long periods of time and in many cases may go multiple years without needing to order the chemical.

However, during runoff events, plant shutdowns and other emergencies that are difficult to predict, there can be an immediate need to potentially order large volumes of Sodium Bisulphite at once. For these reasons The City of Calgary is seeking to have a supply agreement in place
