Description
Oregon State University intends to contract for the provision of TA Instruments Discovery DSC 250 from TA Instruments-Waters LLC as a sole source because of the contractor being the single provider of the goods and/or services. Oregon State University is in need of TA Instruments Discovery DSC 250 for essential characterization of synthesized polymers and lipid nanoparticles in a research project. TA Instruments- Water LLC is the exclusive manufacturer and supplier of the Discovery DSC 250. The patented technologies and proprietary designs ensure that no other DSC on the market can meet the performance and operational criteria outlined in the specifications below:

1. Patented Tzero® Technology:
The DSC employs a four-term heat flow equation (U.S. Patents 6,488,406; 6,431,747; 6,561,692)
that measures and compensates for thermal resistance, capacitance, and heating rate imbalances.
This ensures superior baseline performance and accurate heat flow measurements.
2. Modulated DSC® Technology:
Patented modulated DSC capabilities allow sinusoidal temperature modulation with real-time Fourier transformation. This technology enables precise separation of reversing and non-reversing heat flow components without requiring post-test desmearing or manipulation. Performance Specifications (Exceeding Industry Standards)
• Baseline Linearity: • Baseline Repeatability: • Baseline Noise: • Temperature Precision: ±0.008°C, with unmatched repeatability of ±0.05°C.
• Heat Flow Resolution: 0.001 μW, setting a new benchmark in sensitivity and data accuracy. Instrument Design and Features
• Silver Furnace with Platinel Heater Windings: Ensures uniform thermal environment and long furnace lifespan.
• Integrated Purge Gas Control: Pre-heated gas delivery eliminates dead-space oxygen for precise thermal measurements.
• Modular Sensor Replacement: Allows multiple research teams to use their own DSC cells on the same base platform.
• Ethernet Communication: Provides maximum flexibility for laboratory installation. Software Advantages
• Automated Calibration and Verification: Scheduled during quiescent periods (e.g., overnight or weekends).
• Unlimited Data Analysis Licenses: Facilitates collaboration across departments and seamless data sharing.
