INTRODUCTION
The Bay County Board of County Commissioners seeks bids from qualified vendors to remove and recycle all segregated white goods/scrap metals collected at the Steelfield Road Landfill located at 11411 Landfill Road, Panama City Beach, FL 32413. White goods/scrap metals may be bailed, compacted or shredded at the landfill facility providing the equipment being utilized is designed to prohibit refrigerant oils and other contaminants from being discharged into the environment. Non-segregated metals shall be removed from the waste stream or inactive disposal area on an on-going basis, or as needed to keep from negatively impacting landfilling operations.
The Steelfield Road Landfill is a Class I/Sub-title D landfill owned and operated by Bay County. As such, the facility serves as a repository for much of the waste that is generated from within Bay County, FL. Certain items however, such as appliances, are prohibited by state regulation from being landfilled. Other items such as lawn mowers and other machinery that have small engines may contain petroleum products that are prohibited from being landfilled. All of these items must be segregated from the normal waste stream until they can be processed for recycling. In addition to the items listed above, items that are predominantly made up of metals, such as barbeque grills, swing sets, metal roofing, etc. are segregated from the waste stream so that they can be processed as scrap metals and recycled.
