Background
This project involves the removal and replacement of the water filter media at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant.
- The filters are vital for safe drinking water in DeKalb County.
-
An assessment showed the Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) media has significantly degraded physically and lost adsorption capacity due to age and long-term use, risking filter performance and operational disruptions.
-
Internal filter components (grating, ladders, underdrains, etc.) require inspection, repair, and selective replacement to ensure safety, integrity, and reliable operation.
-
Upgrades will maintain regulatory compliance, support water quality goals, and preserve operational flexibility.
-
This project will proactively address aging infrastructure, minimize emergency repairs, and prepare the plant for future challenges like PFAS treatment, ensuring uninterrupted service.
