2025 Romine and Roosevelt Drive Water Main Replacement Project

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough is seeking the services of a qualified utility contractor to replace water mains in the 6800 Block of Roosevelt Drive and throughout Romine Drive in the South Tongass Service Area. Existing ductile iron mains will be replaced with 8-inch HDPE, along with new mainline, hydrant and service line valves; selective replacement of CMP culverts with Corrugated Plastic Pipe; and improvements to the Pressure Reducing Vault at the Romine/Roosevelt intersection.

This project will address longstanding corroded piping in the South Tongass Service Area which has experienced nearly twenty ruptures in the past twelve years. Throughout the South Tongass Water Distribution System, these sections of pipe have the greatest frequency of leaks, with a leak occurring during every instance of hydrant flushing or hydrant use during firefighting operations. Per the South Tongass Water Phase I-V project and the 2024 South Tongass Water System Master Plan, piping is designed to allow for future interconnection to the Ravenwood mains to create a new loop for operational redundancy.
