CONTRACTOR BACKGROUND CLEARANCE PACKET
Contractor's staff requesting clearance to work for the County of San Diego must comply with all of the
following requirements.
1. Contracted employee will be required to complete electronic fingerprint scanning at a live
scan location, Driver's License will be required. Department of Justice requires a fee
ranging between $60-$115, fees vary by location. (Suggested live scan locations are
listed on page 4).
* Please note: Once the live scan form is completed and signed by the live
scan operator, employee is required to bring the completed packet to the
Security Services Office (step 2). Live scan results will be electronically
sent to County of San Diego/General Services.
2. Return to the Security Services Office with the signed live scan form and Security
Clearance Request Release and Waiver (page 2), which is to be completed and signed by
the employee. Driver's License/CA ID and Social Security Card are required and a check
or money order for $20.00 made payable to the Sheriff Dept, County of San Diego. If
employee is a non-US citizen, please bring a Permanent Resident Card or INS Work permit.
3. Allow Sheriff's Department 6-8 weeks to complete background clearance. The Security
Services Office will notify employer of background results. Once employee has been
notified of a successful background clearance, employee shall return to the Security
Services Office for a photo/badge/ID. A fee of $20.00 is required to receive badge. Make
check or money order payable to General Services . Background packets will only be held
for 3 months after the employer is notified.
4. ID badges are required to be worn and be visible at all times when working on county sites.
Under no circumstances can ID badges be given or shared with others.

Reasons for being disqualified may include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Felony convictions.
2) Exhibiting patterns of criminal behavior:
theft, petty theft, theft-related crime
forgery
possession of stolen property
embezzlement
welfare fraud
battery
assault
3) Conviction for crimes of moral turpitude:
registered sex offender
prostitution
4) Exhibiting patterns of anti-social behavior.
5) Convictions for illegal immigrant smuggling.
6) Unresolved warrants or investigations:
Unpaid fines/tickets/warrants to court may lead to temporary disqualification.
Active warrants or cases shall be disqualified temporarily until applicant provides proof the
warrants or administrative holds have been resolved.
Criminal charges pending, that if convicted would be disqualifying, will be temporarily
disqualified pending the disposition of those charges.
In all cases, non-qualifying determinations or subsequent denial of an ID/Access badge
must be reviewed and approved by General Services Security Manager.

Contractor Clearance Background Checklist
To complete the background process, please ensure employee brings the following documentation
completed. Social Security Card and proof of identity are required. One identity document must be
present. Please see below for acceptable forms of ID*.
