Commercial Chassis:
The cab and chassis meeting the requirements of this specification shall be a new, unused, current
year model, Ford F-550 XL, super cab, 4x4 chassis with a 6.7 liter diesel engine, automatic
transmission, and have an approximate 84-inch cab-to-axle measurement and an approximate 192-
inch wheelbase measurement.
The cab and chassis shall be delivered to the body manufacturer's facility from the Ford Motor
Company for manufacturing into an emergency response Rescue/Quick Attack Fire Apparatus,
meeting and/or exceeding the customer's specifications. Once the cab and chassis has arrived at
the body manufacturing facility, work shall begin on installing the 12-foot Rescue/Quick Attack
body, water tank, water pump, pump control panel, booster reel with hose, and specialty
equipment onto the chassis.

Apparatus Completion Timeline:
The Rescue/Quick Attack Fire Apparatus, once the chassis is received by the body manufacturer,
shall be completed within approximately 180 weekdays from the receipt of the cab and chassis
from the Ford Motor Company.

Ranch Hand Sport Full Front Bumper Conversion:
There shall be provided, one (1), Ranch Hand, Sport, full front bumper conversion with grille
guard, brush guard, headlamp guard, and winch carrier. The full front bumper conversion shall
have a black anodized finish.
The full front bumper conversion shall have the following:
One (1) Brush, grille, and headlamp guard.
Black in color.
One (1) Winch carrier.
Black in color.
One (1) Permanently mounted Warn winch.
See the following paragraph.
Siren speakers and forward facing emergency warning lights shall be mounted to the full
front bumper conversion.
The actual layout and components mounted to the full front bumper conversion shall be

full front bumper conversion's winch carrier. The Warn winch shall include an automatic
mechanical cone brake and an easy to use free-spooling rotating ring gear clutch. The Warn
winch controls shall be accessible after installation.
The permanently mounted Warn winch shall have the following:

100-feet of 3/8-inch cable.

Apparatus Wheel Simulators and Tires:
The chassis of this apparatus shall be supplied with Ford OEM steel wheels and come with
stainless-steel simulators. The tire and wheel assembly shall be balanced accordingly, by the
OEM of Ford, to maximize the life of the tires. The chassis shall be provided, by the OEM
of Ford, with 225/70R19.5G BSW all position tires.

Tire Air Pressure Monitoring System:
There shall be provided a set, six (6), of Real Wheels, LED Air-Secure tire alert air pressure
sensors. The air pressure sensors shall monitor each tire's air pressure. A sensor shall be
provided on the valve stem of each tire, for a total of six (6) sensors.
The sensor shall calibrate to the tire's air pressure when installed on the valve stem for air pressures
between 10 and 200 psi. The sensor shall activate an integral battery operated LED light when the
air pressure of that tire drops between 5 to 8 psi.
Removing the cap from the sensor, will indicate functionality of the sensor and battery. If the
sensor and battery are in working condition, the LED light will immediately start to flash.

Apparatus Exhaust System Modification:
The factory exhaust system shall be modified to extend out the officer's side of the apparatus,
rearward the rear wheel well, and be flush with the side of the apparatus' body. The exhaust tip
shall extend at a 90 angle with the ground and be capable of accepting an exhaust system tube with
minimal modifications to the exhaust pipe and/or tip.

Class IV Hitch Receivers:
There shall be provided, three (3), Class IV hitch receivers. The hitch receivers shall be located:
one (1) on the driver's side under the L-1 compartment, one (1) under the officer's side under the

R-1 compartment, and one (1) on the rear side of the apparatus' body and shall be flush with the
rearward edge of the rear tailboard. The Class IV hitch receivers shall be securely fastened to the
chassis' frame rails, as no body attachment method shall be utilized or shall be acceptable.
With the rear hitch receiver, there shall be two (2) anchors adjacent to the hitch receiver for the
securing of a trailer's safety chains.
The rear hitch receiver shall have a 12,000 lb. rating, be classified as a Class IV receiver, and be
capable of accepting a 2-inch trailer hitch.
There shall be provided a 7-prong connector with weatherproof cover at the rear hitch receiver to
power the taillights on trailers the purchasing department owns.
There shall be provided three (3), 12-volt DC outlets, one (1) at each of the three (3) hitch receivers
for powering portable equipment such as a portable winch or rope pully.

Apparatus Body
General Body Construction and Finish:
The Rescue/Quick Attack body of this fire apparatus shall be fabricated from the highest quality
of materials, using the highest quality of craftsmanship, and shall be designed for use as an
emergency response Rescue/Quick Attack Fire Apparatus. To keep with the purchasing
department's construction methods and high standards for emergency response fire apparatus, the
following shall be applied:
Plastic, fiberglass, composite, or FRP panels shall NOT be used to cover any exterior
metal surface in lieu of paint.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
All add-on items such as handrails, steps, lights, brackets, etc. shall be removed prior to
prepping for paint.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
All surfaces of the body shall be sanded, prepped, primed, and painted to match the job
color with the highest level of craftsmanship.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
The painted surfaces shall not have any visible imperfections within the painted finish.

The street side (left), the curb side (right), the front side, and a portion of the rear side of
the modular body shall be painted to match the job color with the highest level of
craftsmanship.

Polished aluminum diamond plate and/or brushed finished stainless-steel shall NOT be
used to cover the body in lieu of paint except for were used as protection panels on the
lower portion of the front body panel, on the four lower corners of the body, surrounding
the rear wheel wells, and as a kick plate on the lower portion of the rear of the body.

12-Foot L. x 98-Inch W. x 80-Inch T. Extruded Aluminum Rescue/Quick Attack

The 12-foot long x 98-inch wide x 80-inch tall Extruded Aluminum Rescue/Quick Attack body
shall be of an all-aluminum built body, using heavy-duty extruded crowns and corner posts. The
body shall be specifically engineered, designed, and fabricated to meet the severe cycle duties of
the fire and rescue industry.
The department shall not seek, nor accept; a lesser built, bent or formed aluminum or converted
utility style body. Also, to avoid warranty issues, the department shall only purchase the unit
complete from a manufacturer who fabricates the entire unit, 100%, including the body,
electrical harnesses, paint, shelving, slide-out trays, etc. at the manufacturer's facility.

The body shall consist of six (6), individual, enclosed, exterior compartments and one (1) open-
air compartment. The body shall have two (2), weather resistant, coffin style built-in
compartments, over the top of the ground accessible compartments. The coffin style
compartments shall be within the structure of the body and behind the header of the body. The
body shall be mounted on the before mentioned chassis and shall come with a Manufacturers
Lifetime Structural Warranty.

Body Construction Overview:
The body shall be fabricated of heavy-duty, custom designed, aluminum extrusions and
aluminum plate. The body shall be designed and engineered specifically for use as an
emergency response fire apparatus and shall be built to meet the heavy-duty demands of the fire
and rescue industry.
The body shall be of a welded style construction for maximum strength and integrity for the
entire life span of the apparatus.
The aluminum extrusions shall be custom designed structural shapes that are of an alloy of 6061
and heated to a temper of T-6 hardness. The aluminum shapes shall be designed with a force-fit
interlock system that shall eliminate any vibrations to the welded structural members.
The interior structural members shall be spaced at a maximum of 12-inches on center. The floor,
compartment roofs, and sides shall be of a cage type construction that is built to form an
independent structure which shall be self-standing and rigid. The body shall then be mounted to
the before mentioned chassis. No chassis fabrication shall be required or shall be permitted.
The exterior walls shall be constructed of 5052 H-32, aluminum with a heat-treated plate that is
stretch leveled to a tolerance of +/- 0.003-inches. The exterior walls shall interlock into place.
All exterior compartments shall be separate, individual components, and no two compartments
shall share a common wall.

Floor Construction:
The floor structure shall consist of 2-inch x 3-inch structural 6063 T-6 aluminum tubing spaced
specifically for each body style as structurally required. Lateral tubing shall extend the full
width of the body between the compartment boxes. The floor tubes shall be welded to the side
structure channels.
The compartment's interior floor surface shall be covered with heavy-duty, 0.125-inch-thick,
smooth aluminum plate. The compartment floors shall have the required framework to support the
anticipated loads that shall be applied to the floor surfaces.

Corner Radius:
The corner radius shall be of the same heavy-duty style construction as the compartment roof
radius, except there shall be no built-in drip molding. The corner radius shall be a 3-inch radius.
All corners shall be semi-hollow extruded shapes for structural strength and shall give a smooth
exterior appearance without the need for bending or forming of the aluminum plate.

Body Side Structure:
The body sides shall be fabricated with four (4) corner radii. The radii shall be 3-inch arc shapes
with interlocking edges on both sides. The extrusions shall be of an alloy of 6063 with a heat-
treated temper of T-6.
The corners and compartment roofs shall be designed to work as a system that has a double
gusset connector in each corner joint. The compartment roofs, corners, and sides shall be welded
as no bolts or rivets are required, permitted or shall be acceptable.
The sides shall be of a jig locked style construction. The jig shall hold the corners and body side
panels in place while the inner 6063 T-6 structure is welded. The members shall be located at a
maximum of 12-inches on center and welded to the compartment roof rails, which shall become
the inner structural connector that shall become the roof members.
The exterior panels shall interlock with the compartment roof, extruded corner post and specially
designed extruded aluminum compartment door frames and shall be constructed of 6063 T-6
aluminum material.

Compartment Roof Radius:
The roof cove radius shall be of an extruded aluminum shape with an alloy and temper of 6061
T-6 with an ultimate strength of 42,000 psi. The shape shall be a 4-inch radius with a built in
inner structural connector to form a one-piece side and roof structure.
The radius shall be of a semi-hollow shape for strength, reduced weight, and to allow passage for
the electrical wiring harnesses.
The roof and side sheets shall interlock into the roof radius and shall be welded from the inside
of the body.

Compartment Roof Construction:
The compartment roofs shall be covered with 0.125-inch-thick, bright finished, aluminum diamond
plate. The roof structure shall consist of 2-inch x 3-inch 6063 T-6 aluminum tubing that shall
span the full width of the compartments. The roof structure tubes shall be spaced at a maximum
of 12-inches on center.
The roof tubes shall be welded to the diamond plate roof and to the inner structural connector of
the radius. The aluminum diamond plate sheet roof's perimeter shall be completely welded to
the roof radii.
All roof seams and perimeters shall be solid welded to aid in the prevention of water and dust
leakage into the compartment areas, no caulking, screws, or rivets shall be utilized or shall be
permitted and acceptable.

Compartment Construction:
All exterior compartments shall be fabricated using 0.125-inch-thick, heavy-duty, smooth
aluminum plate. All corners shall be solid. The appropriate amount of aluminum tubing shall be
utilized for each body style as structurally required to form the framework of the compartments
to support the anticipated loads applied to the floor surfaces.
Each compartment shall be vented with a minimum of a 4-inch vent.
Each compartment shall be vented to the atmosphere.
Each compartment floor shall be of the "sweep out" design for the ease of cleaning.
Each compartment shall have drain holes in the floor in the rear corners for ease of
cleaning.
Each compartment shall be finished with a textured style protective coating.
Decreased overall floor-to-ceiling height of the L-3/R-3 compartments due to the
increased Angle of Departure.

The response area of the purchasing department has steep inclines that must be traversed
therefor, the purchasing department shall require that the Angle of Departure be no less than
approximately 18 degrees, measured from the bottom of the rear tires to the rearward lower edge of the
rear tailboard.
The purchasing department is aware that by increasing the Angle of Departure, shall decrease the
overall height of the rear L-3 and R-3 compartments as measured from floor to the ceiling of
each compartment.
