Request for Proposals of the Norwood Transfer Station

San Miguel County is requesting proposals for the independent operation of the established household trash and recycling station on county-owned land located at 1100 County Road W35, Norwood. The intent is to provide the Public with the ability to use the household trash and recycling drop site—a service operated by an independent contractor. The site will remain open to the Public with the contracted operator managing all aspects of staffing, fee collection, operations, and administration.

A successful proposal will result in a five-year contract engagement, with annual reviews of operations conducted in collaboration with San Miguel County staff. The County will reserve the right to monitor and evaluate the Contractor's performance to ensure that operations meet acceptable standards of safety and sanitation. The County will also request an annual review of the disposal fee schedule.

The County will be responsible for road maintenance to the Transfer Station. The County will be responsible for the Electricity costs and Porta-potty charges.

Hours of operation:

Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Sunday 9 am – 5 pm

Household Trash for San Miguel County residents with disposal punch cards will be paid directly to the Contractor for $5.25 per large bag, or $105 per card, when provided to the resident.

The Contractor will charge Other Household trash; recycling will remain free of charge as a benefit to the Public.
