Work under this contract includes the replacement of approximately thirty (30) existing in-service 16-inch butterfly valves and fifty (50) gate valves, varying in size from 4-inches to 12-inches, with new resilient wedge gate valves located along the Town-owned section of Main Street (trailblazed as Route 83) primarily in the Downtown section of the Town of Manchester between Hartford Road and US Route 6/44 (Center Street). Included with the primary work in the Downtown area, there are three additional spot locations with valve replacements within the CT Dept. of Transportation-owned Route 83 (S Main St) right of way used to isolate the water main carried by the S Main St bridge over I-384 (valves are located beyond bridge limits/outside I-384 right of way). The project's valves identified have either failed or are at the end of service life and need to be replaced as part of system maintenance.
Work includes other appurtenant work such as installation of resilient wedge gate valves at new locations, replacement of existing water main segments with ductile iron pipe ranging in size from 4-inches to 16-inches as part of reconnecting the replacement valve installations, temporary and permanent pavement repair, and traffic control. The Work may include the installation of various size insertion valves and line-stops to facilitate gate valve installations.
The Project Schedule for this project is projected to be completed within ONE HUNDRED FIFTY (150) WORKING DAYS (contract days).
