The City of St. Petersburg provides residential collection of single-stream recyclable materials identified on the Bid Page in attachment "B" and needs a convenient way to deliver such recyclable materials to a qualified vendor that will sort, process, and market those materials for the purpose of recycling and providing a revenue share to the City.
St. Petersburg is the fifth largest city in Florida and located on the peninsula of Pinellas County. The population of the City is 258,308. The City's Sanitation Department has been providing curbside single-stream recycling since 2015. Approximately 80,000 single family homes and multifamily homes of four or less utilize 95-gallon containers. These containers are collected curbside and from alleys using automated side loaders and manual rear loader, collection trucks Collections are made every other week. If residents require more than one container, it is provided at no additional cost. The City collects about 11,000 tons of single stream recyclables per year with an approximately 65% participation rate. Additionally, drop off centers are located throughout the city for commercial and multifamily homes of five or more units. These recyclables are collected and processed under a separate agreement.
