Recreation and Parks Master Plan Update

DeWitt Charter Township, the City of DeWitt and the DeWitt Area Recreation Authority, located in Clinton County, Michigan are requesting proposals and statements of qualifications from interested consultants to update the DeWitt Area Recreation Master Plan.

In operation since July 2003, DARA was formed by DeWitt Charter Township and the City of DeWitt to offer recreation programs and services for the residents of the Township and City. DARA provides year-round recreation, athletics and special events for a population of approximately 20,000. DeWitt Township and the City of DeWitt continue to operate and maintain recreation facilities and park land. The current master plan adopted by DeWitt Township and the City of DeWitt in 2022 will expire in 2026.

The planning process will examine current and future social and economic demographics, citizen recreational preferences and financial strategies with close attention given to plan development guidelines established by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). The consultant will work with Township, City and Authority representatives and residents served to create a plan that includes actionable recommendations for park land, non-motorized trails and open space acquisition and recreation facility development. The final project will be a combined comprehensive Master Plan that serves to guide future park and recreation-related decisions and actions carried out by DeWitt Township, the City of DeWitt, DARA and other potential public and private partners.
