Title: Rattlesnake Island Offloading
Addenda: 0
Release Date: 4/3/2025
Due Date: 5/8/2025
Approximately 550,000 cubic yards of sand from the existing dredge material management area (DMMA) known as MSA 434S/ Rattlesnake Island will be slurried and pumped through a pipeline down the Intracoastal Waterway, across the barrier island at Sapphire Road and south down the beach. The sand will be deposited and shaped behind properties that have provided the County with sand placement easements from R-160 south to R-190. Contractor will be responsible for all wildlife monitoring, relocation and compliance as well as vibration monitoring and turbidity compliance.
Hurricanes Ian, Nicole and Milton severely eroded Volusia County’s beaches leaving the shoreline and beach front strucutres vulnerable to future storm events. Using grant funding made available by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and in partnership with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND), approximately 550,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand will be pumped onto New Smyrna Beach.
