Project Description: BACKGROUND
The City of Fort Worth is home to nearly 1 million people, ranking as the 11th largest city in the U.S. It serves as the anchor of the Fort Worth-Dallas (DFW) Metroplex, a region of over 8 million residents, and has nearly 4.4 million jobs that produced $688.9B in GDP, or 3% of the US GDP. Over the past 25 years, Fort Worth has seen tremendous growth, with its population increasing nearly 80 percent since 2000. This rapid growth has fueled the City’s successes and strained its infrastructure. The City’s Transportation and Public Works (TPW) Department is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of transportation-related infrastructure within the City of Fort Worth. The Department is currently responsible for operating and maintaining:
8,300 lane miles of street surface
11,349,310 linear feet of pavement markings
67,517 streetlights
3,158 miles of sidewalks
236 miles of engineered drainage channels
5,066 traffic signals
980 signalized intersections
113,295 signs
205 rail crossings
29,462 storm drains/inlets
1,036 on-street metered parking spaces
In an effort to engage in new, more efficient approaches to operate and maintain its infrastructure, the City of Fort Worth has released this Request for Information Regarding Innovation (RFI) to identify new technologies to oversee, monitor, and address its infrastructure’s performance. Through this process, the City hopes to select technologies to be pilot-tested and evaluated.
