3) Background Information
Andover Public Schools (USD #385) is located near the northeast side of Wichita in the rapidly developing city of Andover, Kansas.
The District is comprised of two high schools, two middle schools, six elementary schools, and one virtual academy, and it spans 47
square miles in western Butler and eastern Sedgwick counties. Brett White is the Superintendent of Schools.
Andover schools take pride in their academic excellence and progress to exceed local, state and national goals. Our tradition of
excellence is evident in our National Merit Finalists and Semi-Finalists, continually higher-than-state-average ACT scores, state
championships in athletics and activities, and regional and national recognitions awarded to programs and staff. Andover's staff and
administration are focused on helping each student succeed.
Andover Public Schools holds high expectations for students and staff. Our success is evident in the many awards and recognitions
staff receives. Andover's current and previous educators have won recognitions such as induction into the National Teachers Hall of
Fame, Kansas Teacher of the Year, Kansas Teacher of the Year finalists and semi-finalists, Kansas Master Teacher, Kansas History
Teacher of the Year and many more.
Andover residents approved a $188 million bond issue in May 2017 that replaced aging facilities, added safety measures and
created new opportunities for students. Included in those projects were a new Andover High School and Meadowlark Elementary
School; additions and renovations at all of the other schools to add secure entry in the offices and storm shelters, among other
improvements; a new Center for Advanced Professional Studies to provide career exploration for high schoolers; new athletics
facilities including a tennis complex, aquatics center, and turf baseball and softball fields; and a new District Office. Construction on
these projects was completed in May 2022.
Andover USD 385 has traditionally been a closed enrollment district, but in 2024-25 the district opened its boundaries due to
legislation. We now open our boundaries to out-of-district students through an application process once a year. Students who live
within district boundaries are assigned a school based on their home address. Cottonwood, Robert M. Martin and Wheatland
Elementary Schools move up to Andover Middle School and Andover High School. Meadowlark, Prairie Creek and Sunflower
Elementary Schools move up to Andover Central Middle School and Andover Central High School. Students living anywhere in the
state of Kansas may attend Andover eCademy.
