Title: Professional Archaeological Continuing Consultant Services

The City of New Smyrna Beach is accepting Letters of Interest and Statements of Qualifications from interested and qualified firms and/or individuals that are interested in providing Professional Archaeological Consultant services to the City of New Smyrna Beach. In order to be considered for award and to be further evaluated, proposer must be a registered professional within the State of Florida and have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the requested area of practice.
The intent of this solicitation is to establish a pool of firms or individuals to perform salvage excavation as the City Archaeologist. The City Archaeologist is defined in the Land Development Regulations (LDR) as the person/firm who shall meet the city's requirements and the standards for membership by the register of professional archaeologists and shall have a demonstrated background in historic and prehistoric archaeology.
It is anticipated that a minimum of three (3) individuals or firms may be selected for a contract. The city makes no covenant or promise as to the number of available projects or that the firm(s) will perform any project for the city during the life of the contract. The successful proposer(s) will hereinafter be referred to as “Professional Consultant”.
During this period, the City shall reserve the right to seek qualifications and/or proposals from other individuals or firms for specialized projects, as deemed to be in the best interest of the City.
The City serves an area of 41.6 square miles in size and serves a population of approximately 33,402. It is located off of Florida’s East Coast, in the County of Volusia, just north of Cape Canaveral with easy access to both Interstate 95 and Interstate 4. The City’s fiscal year begins on October 1st and ends on September 30th.
The City was created in 1887 by adoption of its first charter, which was replaced through Chapter 224.08, Special Acts of Florida, 1943, and subsequently amended, with the most recent update taking effect January 1, 2021.
The legislative branch of the City is composed of an elected five-member City Commission consisting of the mayor and four commissioners. The City Commission is governed by the City Charter and by state and local laws and regulations. The City Commission is responsible for the establishment and adoption of policy. The execution of such policy is the responsibility of the Commission-appointed City Manager.
