Prairie Dog Control

Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department (BCPOS) is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced contractors for prairie dog removal via compressed carbon monoxide (CO).

The county owns approximately 25,000 acres of agricultural land and leases it to qualified operators. The County, through its Parks & Open Space Department, Agricultural Resources Division, oversees the land, manages the leases, and tracks rent and crop production. Over 90% of all crops grown on agricultural lands end up in the local food system. BCPOS currently leases land for cattle grazing in an effort to support the local farming community and for the long-term preservation of agricultural land. Over the course of the last decade, BCPOS agricultural open space properties have become unusable for cattle grazing/crops due to a large number of prairie dogs and despite the County’s efforts and resources earmarked for their removal.

The County is seeking qualified contractors to retain for future projects of the discipline as described in this Solicitation of Qualifications (SOQ). The County retains the right to select more than one contractor.
