POOL CHEMICALS
CITY OF INDEPENDENCE, KANSAS 2026 POOL CHEMICAL BIDS
The City of Independence, Kansas, on behalf of the Independence Recreation Commission, is requesting bids for chemicals to be used at the Ash Youth Center and Riverside Beach Aquatic Center in Independence, Kansas for the 2026 calendar year. Each supplier may bid on one or more chemicals as they so desire, and bids will be awarded on each chemical separately. Additional information can be found on the City’s website at www.IndependenceKS.gov.
Bids will be received in the office of the City Clerk, 120 N. 6th Street, Independence, Ks. 67301, on or before 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4th. Bids shall be enclosed in a sealed envelope plainly marked on the outside “2026 Pool Chemical Bids”. If bid is mailed, original envelope shall be enclosed in a separate envelope addressed to the City Clerk, also plainly marked on the outside as stated above. E-mail or fax bids will not be accepted. The apparent low bid will then be presented to the Independence Recreation Commission for formal action.
The city and recreation commission reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids or to waive any irregularities should any occur as may best benefit the City. The City Manager may require that no bidder may withdraw a bid for a period of up to forty-five (45) days after the date and hour set for opening bids, but that a bid may be withdrawn up to twenty-four (24) hours prior to expiration of the deadline for submitted bids.

Specifications:
The bids shall be for material manufactured and produced in the United States, with NSF 60 standard certification.
Chemicals shall be FOB Independence, Kansas, with all freight, or other related charges included as separately stated items on the quote. All cost due to container deposit and or demurrage shall be listed separate from the unit price. Any cleaning cost or re-inventory cost of empty containers shall also be listed separate. List separately any minimum delivery charges. All empty containers shall be picked up upon delivery of new chemicals.
Freight cost changes during the year will be accepted by the Independence Recreation Commission upon a sixty (60) day notification by the supplier.
The driver is responsible for having the proper equipment to place the order in its storage area. Following is a list of the chemicals and the anticipated use of each chemical per location:
Ash Youth Center – located at 1501 N 10th Street, Independence, KS 67301:
Sodium Hypochlorite: Sodium Hypochlorite shall be delivered in 55-gallon doldrums. Minimum specifications shall be AWWA B300-92 or latest revision thereof.
Anticipated usage is 330 gallons (6 drums)
Hydrochloric Acid: Liquid acid shall be delivered in 55-gallon doldrums of 20-degree regular acid.
Anticipated usage is 165 gallons (3 drums)
Riverside Beach Aquatic Center – located at 1300 N. 5th Street, Independence, KS, 67301:
Sodium Hypochlorite: Sodium Hypochlorite shall be delivered in 320-gallon totes. Minimum specifications shall be AWWA B300-92 or latest revision thereof.
Anticipated usage is 5,120 gallons (16 totes)
Hydrochloric Acid: Liquid acid shall be delivered in 55-gallon doldrums of 20-degree regular acid.
Anticipated usage is 275 gallons (5 drums)
Sodium Bicarbonate: Soda ash shall be delivered in fifty (50) pound bags. Minimum specifications shall be AWWA B201-92 or latest revision thereof.
Anticipated usage is 300 pounds (6) bags
Calcium Chloride: Calcium Chloride shall be delivered in fifty (50) pound bags. Minimum specifications shall be AWWA B550-90 or latest revision thereof.
Anticipated usage is 300 pounds (6) bags.
