Planning Services for Comprehensive Plan

The City of Decatur desires to have prepared a comprehensive plan that will foster an equitable, thriving, and welcoming community for all, today and in the future. To achieve this City vision, the plan must take a holistic approach across all community priorities as identified in the 2020 Strategic Plan, strengthen environmental sustainability and resilience, inspire community engagement and cross-sector partnerships, promote innovative solutions, and outline an implementation strategy.
The primary framework of the plan will be to build upon predetermined goals of the 2020 Strategic Plan, also known as Destination: 2030, which also serves as the City's most recent Comprehensive Plan.* The year 2026 marks the mid-point of this 10-year plan and is also when the comprehensive plan update is required to be completed. The City sees this as an opportunity to complete a mid-point check-in of the 2020 Strategic Plan to assess goals that have been completed, are in progress, and are incomplete.
The City seeks through this process to refine these goals to better align with regional and state planning goals, including Economic Development, Natural and Historic Resources, Community Facilities and Services, Housing, and Land Use, pursuant to O.C.G.A. 50-8-1 et seq., and Environment pursuant to O.C.G.A. 12-2-8. The methods to achieve the plan must follow the applicable planning standards and procedures for local comprehensive planning outlined in each of the state code sections, and supplemental rules and regulations.
The comprehensive plan update will guide and support the efforts of the community work program, providing detailed strategic implementation plan, and direction for years the next five years.
