On-Call Sidewalk Construction RFIs & Answers
Date: 2/19/2026
Question 1: Would the town consider for year 2 of the contract a 2 or 3 % escalation
charge?
Not at this time.
Question 2: Is there a bid bond or performance bond required?
No.
Question 3: Would there be any bonding requirements for work in CT DOT right of way?
Not unless CTDOT requires it specifically. Generally, we submit the encroachment
permits as the applicant which alleviates the bonding needs.
Question 4: What size cast iron ADA plates will be used?
Plates must be 2 feet in width, ramps are 4 feet wide minimum, typical is 2’x2’ plates
placed and cut as needed to meet Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines
(PROWAG) standards.
Question 5: Cast Iron ADA plates - straight or radius?
Straight; if radius is required, that can be worked out with a difference in material cost.
Question 6: Will wire mesh be installed in all concrete?
See details, 5 inch concrete typically will not require mesh where 8 inch typically will.
Question 7: Will a concrete sealant needed to be applied to all installed concrete?
Sealant, moisture cure, etc. should be considered for a quality product. Minimum
specifications not detailed will follow CTDOT Form 819, or most current edition.
Question 8: For concrete thru a residential driveway - will the bituminous concrete be
permanent or temporary?
Bit. conc. asphalt repair is not part of this base contract, typically the Town will use
dept. personnel or a separate contractor. If not, a unit price may be agreed upon
separately with the awarded sidewalk/concrete contractor.
Question 9: Any sediment erosion controls needed for this bid?
Sediment and erosion controls as well as traffic protection and work zone protection
should be included (except flaggers).
Question 10; What is the required installation of topsoil and seed and asphalt - 1 ft on each
side? How would long transitions be compensated for when grades have larger
adjustments?
This depends on the cut/disturbance needed; any effected areas should be
loamed/seeded and restored as part of the base bid.
Question 11: Will a certified payroll be needed
No, this contract is not intended to be used for projects over $100,000.
Question 12: what is the annual budget for this bid - $ 100,000.00 - 200,000.00
This varies, currently we are projecting our sidewalk capital budget to be $50,000
annually but if more repairs are needed, we may use other funding sources.
This page summarizes the opportunity, including an overview and a preview of the attached documents.
