This is a Notice of Intent, not a request for quotation. No solicitation will be issued, and quotes will not be accepted.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a firm-fixed-price sole source contract to Verathon Inc., located at 20001 North Creek Parkway, Bothell, WA 98011-8218. The purpose of this acquisition is to replace six (6) Verathon Glide Scope video monitors with six (6) Verathon Glide Scope Core15 video monitors.

The Department of Perioperative Medicine at the NIH Clinical Center requires the procurement of six (6) Verathon GlideScope Core15 Video Laryngoscopy Monitors. These monitors are essential for providing safe anesthesia care to research participants. The current video laryngoscopy monitors have surpassed their service life, and image quality has significantly degraded.

To ensure clinical compatibility, the new video monitors must work with existing GlideScope Titanium laryngoscopes (sizes T2, T3, and T4) currently in use. Only Verathon video monitors meet this compatibility requirement. Additionally, the system must support simultaneous dual use and dual-view side-by-side imaging for laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, which is critical for managing difficult airways.

Justification for Sole Source:

Verathon Inc. is the sole manufacturer of the required video monitors. They have only one authorized SDVOSB distributor: Veterans Healthcare Supply Solutions (VHSS).

This acquisition is being conducted under FAR Part 13 – Simplified Acquisition Procedures, specifically Subpart 13.106-1(b)(1), which allows for sole source awards when only one source is reasonably available. Contracts under this part are exempt from the competition requirements of FAR Part 6.
