Description of Intended Products or Services Provided:

The Event Impact Calculator (EIC) measures the economic value of an event and calculates its return on investment to local taxes. Armed with this information, destination organizations and Naples, Marco Island, and Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau are better prepared to make the case to policymakers and stakeholders for the ongoing development and growth of the events and meetings sectors. Updated annually, the calculator draws on ten different data sources to provide an industry-wide standard. The EIC is utilized by over 300 destination organizations worldwide and is the global standard for measuring net new money coming to a community because of meetings and events. The models and platform have been developed by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company. The platform is utilized for three types of activities: conferences/meetings, sports events, and arts and cultural events and festivals.

This calculator is utilized in the evaluation of public events and meetings, sporting events at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex and other County locations, and arts and culture marketing grants.

The calculator helped raise the acumen of how we speak about events. Events drive taxes and support jobs. These are two key talking points that destinations would want to speak about to their local community to continue to support the promotion of attracting meetings and events. The EIC fundamentally does both for them. The data is presented to the Board of County Commissioners as part of their evaluation of sports and other tourism grant programs.
