    The Minnesota Department of Health Newborn Screening Lab (NBS) intends to enter into a onetime agreement with Qiagen LLC to purchase Qiagen reagents required for the NBS Lab’s assay for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and to validate a new addition to the Newborn Screening testing panel Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV). This assay uses the extraction method for our cystic fibrosis (CF) test, which has been previously validated. The NBS Lab has conducted extensive testing of these assay kits to validate our methodology and instrumentation, changing products would be neither time nor cost effective.
