New York State Clean Energy Internship Program (PON 4000)

Description
Provides funding to eligible clean energy businesses, organizations, or local municipalities/counties interested in hiring interns to perform meaningful work in the clean energy sector. Both clean energy businesses and interns can apply to participate in the program. Accepted businesses will select, interview and make an offer to intern candidates.

Up to $7.5 million is available to enhance the talent pipeline through meaningful clean energy internships to students. Funding is allocated on a first-come first-served basis to businesses that register, perform eligibility checks, and submit all completed materials in to NYSERDA. Funding will be allocated until it is exhausted or until the submission deadline.

Reimbursement will be on a sliding scale depending on the size of the business:
  • Percent of intern wage funded by NYSERDA for businesses with 2 to 100 employees: 90%
  • Percent of intern wage funded by NYSERDA for businesses with 100 or more employees: 75%

This program is supported with System Benefits Charge (SBC)/Clean Energy Fund (CEF) funding. SBC/CEF service territory consists of areas with electric service provided by Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp., Consolidated Edison Company of NY, Inc., NYS Electric and Gas Corporation, National Grid, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., and Rochester Gas and Electric. All companies that participate under this PON must have offices in the SBC/CEF service territory. Any intern supported under this PON must work in SBC/CEF territory.

NYSERDA is making the following Program changes due to the COVID-19 State Of Emergency. These changes are effective March 7, 2020 until December 31, 2020 or until NYSERDA otherwise rescinds: The NYS Department of Labor will not be conducting due diligence checks on all Businesses that apply to this PON. NYS Department of Labor will only be conducting due diligence checks on an as-needed basis if specifically requested by NYSERDA.
