The Minnesota Department of Commerce intends to purchase annual membership in NAIC – National Association of Insurance Commissioners. NAIC provides expertise, data and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. It is the U.S. standard-setting organization governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories to coordinate regulation of multistate insurers. There is no other regulatory organization that provides coordination and insight into antifraud efforts, consumer complaints, market analysis, producer licensing and regulatory interventions between interstate commerce of insurance companies. Membership dues are based on a percentage of total insurance premiums for Minnesota compared to the rest of the states and territories.
