MnDOT MRR Research Operations On Board Sound Intensity Components

The Minnesota Department of Transportation to Illingworth & Rodkin’s On Board Sound Intensity Testing (OBSI) (AASHTO T-360).

OBSI was developed to aid State Agencies and their consultants in evaluating Tire Pavement interaction Noise and not overall traffic noise. The microphones are therefore sophisticated and are not easily alternatively sourced. Their special description and specification does not lend their usage outside of OBSI measurements whereupon the microphones analyzers are specially and solely made for OBSI testing. The technology has transformed from a temporary AASHTO standard AASHTO TP 76-09 to TP 76-11 and TP 76 -13 to the approved standard AASHTO T 360.
