BACKGROUND: Anesthesiology is responsible for providing anesthesia services for all surgical, non-OR procedure areas, and all other locations that sedation is administered in the facility. Anesthesiology currently uses the Codonics Safe Label System in all locations; seven of these systems have reached end of life. The machines are frequently in need of repair; the service must hand label medications when this occurs. Additionally, the company will no longer be manufacturing the printer ink after next year; these machines will become unusable. To provide safe patient care, the service must acquire new medication labeling machines that meet Joint Commission (TJC) requirements, American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA), and ISO labeling guidelines.
SCOPE: The James A Haley Veterans Hospital has a requirement to purchase seven Medication Labeling Systems. James A Haley Department of Anesthesia is requesting contractors provide the brand name only labeling system, manufactured by Codonics, that will be capable of integrating with current system using the latest technology and standardized in all locations. The Vendor will provide operating software, installation, Return-to-Factory Warranty, and on- site, hands on training to include Specialty procedures staff and Biomedical/Clinical Engineering staff.
