The project consists of removal and replacement of an existing culvert with two upsized culverts and associated riprap. The work also includes, but is not limited to, sidewalk and asphalt removal and replacement and landscaping. Currently, the culvert is undersized for the 100-year storm event, creating the potential for overtopping, piping around the culvert, and eventual washout of the roads. The culvert crosses beneath Meadow Lane, a collector street in southeast Steamboat Springs, and conveys the flows of a tributary of Walton Creek known as the Bear Creek tributary. The project area is located within the Walton Creek watershed, and is Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regulated and labeled as FEMA Zone A. Construction is anticipated in late August or early September of 2026, and is expected to last approximately six to eight weeks.
