Marine Construction Oyster Implementation

This project applies two oyster restoration techniques to four constructed Living Breakwaters segments. These restoration techniques will be installed on the permitted and constructed breakwaters in 2025 and 2026, including 1) concrete disks within the eco-enhanced armor concrete units of four of the breakwaters, and 2) trapezoidal concrete block scour protection units on the lee and ocean side on four of the breakwaters. These techniques will be seeded with juvenile oysters (spat) and are described below. 2 The Contractor will be responsible for placing up to four modified 20'x8' open-top shipping containers on a materials barge or for mobilizing, towing, maintaining for the duration of the installation, and demobilizing Billion Oyster Project’s 130'x45 ‘spud barge between Governors Island, New York, and Tottenville, Staten Island, New York.
