Limestone 24/25 Timber Sale

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This sale is approximately 304 acres in size and consists of a combination of approximately 204 acres of clearcut and 100 acres of third row thinning with operator select on Plank Road State Forest in Leon and Jefferson Counties (see attached maps). The areas to be clearcut (Sale Areas 1-3) consist of 37-45-year-old slash and/or loblolly pine and hardwoods. All slash and loblolly pine timber and hardwoods in these areas are available for harvest. The areas to be thinned (Sale Areas 4-7) consist of 26-37-year-old loblolly and/or slash pine and hardwoods. Timber to be removed from these areas includes every third row and select trees in the remaining rows in order to reach 60-70 square feet of residual basal area per acre. All hardwoods will be removed and not counted towards the desired basal area unless the Forester-in-Charge marks the hardwood to remain.  Trees to be removed from the selection rows include diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees; followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area.  Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The target basal area per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-in-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions.  Boundary trees marked with a white paint are not to be harvested.  If the Forester-in-Charge marks a tree with orange paint, that tree will remain uncut.  Timber sale boundary lines have been marked in blue where needed. If the contractor desires to mark any timber in the sale area, the paint color may not be orange, white, or blue. The estimated volume to be removed from the total sale area are 822 tons of pine topwood, 2,861 tons of pine pulpwood, 4,152 tons of pine chip-n-saw, 3,689 tons of pine sawtimber, and 1,936 tons of hardwood pulpwood. This will be a twelve (12) month contract. Interested parties may obtain complete bid information by contacting Caitlyn Peca at (850) 681-5936.

The Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any irregularity in bids received.
