Landfill Decommissioning and Reclamation

The Work to be undertaken generally involves, but is not necessarily limited to, the following:

• Decommissioning of the inactive landfill cell at the Village of Avonlea Landfill.
• Waste excavation, reconsolidation, regrading, and compaction within the capping area footprint to design grades in the Drawings.
• Reclamation of the areas disturbed during construction with topsoil, and hydroseeding where indicated in the Drawings.
• Excavate from on-site borrow suitable soils or from imported stockpiles to construct final cap for the Landfill’s subgrade, compacted clay layer, and topsoil layer.
• Hauling asphalt stockpile to acceptable offsite recycling or disposal facility, pending decision by the Owner.
• Mobilization and demobilization of equipment to/from the Site including: construction and maintenance of haul roads, laydown, operational areas as needed; Prime Contractor duties; Site safety and environmental protection plans and responsibilities; obtaining necessary permits; excavation and reclamation of local borrow area; Site erosion controls; line locates; protection of infrastructure and facilities; all temporary works and facilities necessary to complete the project; all surveying and construction layout; and final clean up and project close out.
