TECHNICAL SERVICES TO REPAIR FEEDBACK CIRCIUT IN CONTROLLABLE PITCH PROPELLER (CPP) SYSTEM

Background. Cutter is experiencing astern creep at HP 0 in Dual Engine Maneuvering Mode. MCS-5 reports pitch percentages of 1% to 1% when at HP 0, but astern creep is significant enough to require one shaft ahead at HP 2 to maintain longitudinal position alongside pier. Astern creep tendency observed on both shafts via prop wash. Cutter has new potentiometer in the feedback circuit to remedy but needs the new values adjusted in the CanMan system. Without these adjustments the cutter maneuvering system is severely degraded. They are also experiencing several loss of engine speed control incidents while in Starboard Cruise mode, resulting in severe engine bogging or uncommanded declutches and engine shutdowns. Issue appears to occur when the operator increases handle position from ~2 to ~5, at which point pitch on both shafts increases as expected but engine RPM/power output does not, causing the engine to bog down to ~240 ERPM at which point the system automatically declutches both shafts and shuts the engine down.

  1. Scope. Kongsberg has qualified Tech Rep and has all proprietary data for the key required to adjust the settings in the CanMan system. This is the program the interfaces with Rolls Royce MCMS programming.

  • INSTALL NEW POTENIOMETER IN THE FEEDBACK CIRCIUT. ALL PARTS ARE ONBOARD THE CUTTER

  • ADJUST NEW NUMERIC VALUES IN THE MCMS/ CANMAN PROGRAMMING.

  • Troubleshoot mapping and adjustments of throttle position compared to CPP system.
