Questions/Answers
The following questions were asked prior to the deadline:
1. Plan Sheet C-06 Typical Section: Plan callout #2 in the typical section requires the use of 6” CABC,
compacted at 100% Proctor Density. CABC will be difficult to place in this terrain, additionally this
compaction requirement exceeds that of typical roadway construction. Contractor would like to
request the ability to utilize a graded aggregate (DOT #57 Stone) as the sub-grade for this
roadway. DOT #57 Stone would be consolidated prior to concrete placement.
Answer: The use of ALDOT #57 Coarse Aggregate (consolidate) as subgrade is acceptable.
2. Plan Sheet C-06 Typical Section: Callout #5 and Plan Note 116 Sheet C-004. Due to the steepness
of the access road specialized mechanical grooving equipment typically used for roadway
concrete pavement will not advance up the grade while maintaining stability. Contractor requests
the option to utilize finishing tools to incorporate uniform groove patterns during the finishing
process capable of providing sufficient traction for the intended use.
Answer: Alternatives to the mechanical saw cut that provide improved traction over a standard
broomed finish will be allowed.
3. Based on information gathered at the Pre-Bid Conference and the intentions of HSV Utilities ;
Contractor requests the ability to modify the CL profile elevations on Sheet C-201 as feasible to
minimize the amount of rock excavation required.
Answer: Deviations from plan profile to minimize the amount of rock excavation required will
be allowed.
4. Contract request additional information as to the locations and extents Existing Concrete
Driveway Repair as shown on Sheet C-005.
Answer: Driveway repair will be paid for per LF with an estimated quantity of 150 LF per the new
unit price bid sheet.
5. Due to the presence of voids beneath the existing concrete driveway it will not be feasible to
competitively estimate damage to driveway. Will Contractor be required to repair damage to
existing concrete driveway or is there alternate access points?
Answer: Existing Driveway Repair line item must be performed before heavy equipment will be
allowed onto the existing concrete drive. Repairs needed to the existing driveway upon
completion of project will be paid for by the SY at the same bid price for the new 6”
Concrete Driveway line item. Contractor will be responsible for removal and Disposal of
existing concrete.
6. Please confirm Material testing as necessary will be performed by HSV Utilities/Owner
Answer: Huntsville Utilities will perform any required testing.
7. Is the project Tax Exempt?
Answer: Yes, the contractor awarded the project will receive Huntsville Utilities’ Tax Exemption
Form.
