The City of Shelton (“City”) is seeking competitive bids for the collection, transportation and disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW) for a three-year term beginning with the 2025 collection, and concluding after the 2027 collection event. At its option, the City may extend the contract for three, one-year periods. Collections will be conducted for one day per year, (in September or October) between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on a mutually convenient Saturday; weather and resident participation permitting, the collection hours may be extended or changed.
The Contractor will provide all necessary equipment for the collection, consolidation and transportation of varied HHW materials. This will include site preparation and protection materials, safety and personal protection equipment for all workers and all other participants, collection and ancillary equipment, and a collection vehicle or transportable collection unit.
On the designated collection day, the Contractor will identify and remove the HHW materials from the resident’s vehicle, and ensure all materials are acceptable. Prior to labeling, materials will be segregated, consolidated or lab packed; all safely and legally, the consolidated materials will be removed from the collection site, transported to the appropriate waste recycling facility, or to a licensed waste treatment, storage or land facility. The Contractor will maximize the reduction and recycling of HHW, and will keep detailed records of waste, by product.
