Hollywood AMDTP – Sludge Disposal Borehole I-3
When requested by the Department Representative, the Contractor shall provide a completely
mobilized rotary drilling rig on the project site within thirty (30) days of being notified to
proceed.
Contractor will have to move the air-rotary drilling rig to the project site together with all
necessary supporting equipment and provide air or water for drilling. This work at the site will
include drilling rotary boreholes using tri-cone or Percussion rotary for the purpose of obtaining
continuous rock chip samples of bedrock, determination fracture zones and voids. Contractor
shall be prepared for directing and handling drilling water at the surface and drill cuttings to
prevent any unwanted offsite influence.
Contractor shall furnish and install eighteen-inch (18”) nominal Schedule 40 Steel overburden
casing pipe, furnish, install and tremie-grout fourteen-inch (14”) Sch 40 and eight-inch (8”)
SDR17 Certa-Lok, or equivalent, casing pipe in the hole as designated by the Department
Representative within the work area. The eighteen-inch (18”) casing will be used if needed to
allow for drilling of the fourteen-inch (14”) casing through loose unconsolidated material.
Once all work at the project site is completed, the Contractor shall remove all equipment from
the project site. All post-construction site conditions shall be as good or better than pre-
construction site conditions.
Due to the nature of the work, it might be necessary to slightly modify the tasks for borehole
construction while the work is being conducted. Such modifications could include: (1) relocation
of boreholes, (2) variation of the depth of the holes proposed for this project. Any modifications
shall be approved and directed by the Department Representative.
The Contractor agrees to furnish all necessary labor and equipment and to perform all the work
and labor required herein in an expeditious, substantial and workman-like manner.

Contract No. AMD 17(1416)107.1
Hollywood AMDTP – Sludge Disposal Borehole I-3
SPECIFICATION NO. 2: DRILLING ROTARY BOREHOLES
2.1 SCOPE
The work covered by this section consists of furnishing all labor, material, equipment,
supplies and all necessary incidentals to drill boreholes at this site location. Work will
include drilling one (1) exploratory pilot hole into the abandoned Lower Kittanning Coal
Mine. The projected depth of each pilot hole is approximately 135’. Once the pilot hole
has intersected suitable conditions at mine elevation, this hole will be reamended to
accept final casing sizes. This work includes the following: drilling to accept eighteen-
inch (18”) nominal Schedule 40 steel casing pipe, if loose unconsolidated overburden
conditions warrant the use of the steel casing to facilitate drilling the fourteen-inch (14”)
overburden casing; drilling to 60’ accommodate fourteen-inch (14”) Schedule 40 PVC
casing pipe; installing the casing pipe and grouting the annulus to within fifteen feet (15’)
of the surface; drilling to accommodate eight-inch (8") SDR17 Certa-Lok, or equivalent,
casing pipe, installing the casing pipe and stage-grouting the annulus to surface through
130’ of rock, mined coal beds conditions to within five feet (5’) of the mine roof. The
Contractor shall submit a stage-grouting plan for approval prior to commencing grouting.
Total depth of the borehole is approximately 135’ below ground level.
2.2 PROCEDURE
All work shall be done under the direction of the Department Representative. The work
involves the drilling of a rotary borehole according to the Technical Specifications for the
project area.
The depth of the borehole is an estimate. The termination depth of the borehole will be at
the discretion of the Department Representative.
Drilling of the borehole shall be with non-percussion or percussion air-rotary drills at the
location shown on the Project Drawings or as designated by the Department
Representative. This does not preclude the use of churn drills for installing and handling
casing pipe or reopening boreholes, if required.
The Department Representative will designate the location and order of drilling of the
hole. The Contractor shall be responsible for determining the location of all underground
and overhead utilities such as, but not limited to telephone, cable, sewer, gas, water and
electric. Should the location of any utility prohibit the drilling of any borehole, the
Contractor shall advise the Department Representative for possible relocation of said
borehole. The Contractor shall not be paid for any borehole or part of any borehole that
should puncture a utility.
The rotary drills shall be equipped with complete dust control systems or mechanisms to
collect dust produced in the process of drilling and prevent the discharge of dust into the
atmosphere. The dust control systems shall be of ample capacity to serve under all
