Summary Details

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship will conduct aerial sheep population inventories in winter 2025 (February and/or March) as part of its efforts to monitor and manage wildlife populations in the Peace Region. Two Bell 206 series helicopters and minimum 2 BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) approved pilots will be required to complete the surveys. Surveys will take place in Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 7-51 and 7-36. Total flight time for these surveys is estimated at 100-110 hours, or 10-12 days.
Wildlife Management Unit 7-51: The survey area will encompass the West Toad-Gundahoo population herd area west of Muncho Lake.  This survey will be based out of Muncho Lake and/or Toad River. Approximately 7-8 days of flying is anticipated to complete this Stone’s sheep minimum count survey with 2 crews – approximately 75-85 hours of total flight time.

Wildlife Management Unit 7-36: The survey area will encompass the Dunlevy, Schooler, and Lower Ospika population herd areas within WMU 7-36, including the western portion of WMU 7-35. This survey will be based out of Hudson’s Hope or local accommodations within the area. Approximately 3-4 days of flying is anticipated to complete this Stone’s sheep minimum count survey with 2 crews – approximately 20-25 hours of flight time.

Flights will involve flying contours through mountain complexes and high elevation sheep habitat searching for sheep. When sheep are observed, the helicopter will circle the animals and allow the observers to count and classify them .
The Ministry does not guarantee the estimated number of flight hours as they are subject to change based on a variety of factors. There will be no daily minimums and no fuel surcharges. We are requesting an all-inclusive wet rate cost (inclusive of pilot wages, meals, accommodations, vehicle rental, hangar fees, remote fuel caches, etc.). The Ministry will not cover ferrying time for the initial arrival and departure to and from the point of deployment. The Contractor must be available to perform the services on an as, if, and when required basis within 48 hours-notice of deployment during the term: February-March 2025

Estimated Contract Duration (in months) The estimated contract duration includes the full length of the contract, including any potential extensions. Further details on the contract term may be described in the Rfx document and is subject to contract finalizaton.
