Headstone Restoration

The Town of Amherst invites sealed bids for conservation and restoration services in the Town’s cemeteries.  Invitation for Bids may be obtained online at www.amherstma.gov/bids .

Bids shall be submitted no later than 2:00 p.m. on March 20, 2025, to the Town of Amherst’s Accountant’s Office where the bids will be publicly opened and recorded at that time.

An optional pre-bid conference will be held on March 12, 2025 at 10:00am starting at the West Cemetery, Triangle Street in Amherst, MA.  The site visit is not mandatory.

The Town of Amherst reserves the right to reject any and all bids in whole or in part, and to waive informalities, when at its sole discretion is deemed to be in the best interests of the Town and to the extent permitted by law.

2.        Experience working with Massachusetts municipal or regional government in the preservation of historic markers and historic burying grounds.

3.        Familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws regarding Burials and the Rules and Regulations for Gravestone Repair/Reproduction and for Removing Tombs, Graves, and Memorials for Repair, and with the Massachusetts Historic Commission’s rules and regulations regarding the restoration of historic markers.

4.        Experience undertaking stone conservation, repair, restoration, and cleaning on all types of stone used for markers including slate, granite, marble, brick, sandstone and schist.
