SECTION 02500
PART I - GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A. The work performed under this Section shall include: providing all labor,
materials, equipment and related items necessary to furnish and construct an all
weather lift station access road. All work shall conform to the City of Austin
Standard Specifications.
1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS
A. City Standard Technical Specifications for road design and construction.
B. Subsurface Investigation.
C. Site requirements of Specification 02800.
D. Design drawings shall be part of the lift station plan submittal.
PART II - PRODUCTS
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
2.02 MATERIALS/CONSTRUCTION
A. Ribbon Curbing
1. A one-foot-wide flat ribbon curbing with two rows of number four rebar is
required in construction on asphalt roads only. Cement is to be domestic
portland cement with regular aggregate mixed to form concrete at 3000 psi
at twenty-eight days.
C. Asphalt
1. Hot mix asphaltic pavement, a minimum of (1 1/2) inches thick may be used
in areas that are not prone to erosion.
D. Concrete
1. Concrete pavement with # 5 steel rebar reinforcement is to be used in high
erosion areas or where other design conditions warrant.
E. Exposed Aggregate
1. Exposed aggregate concrete pavement with # 5 steel rebar reinforcement
may be used as an option for aesthetic appearance.

ACCESS ROAD
SECTION 02500
1. In environmentally sensitive areas "open type" concrete pavers that allow
grass to grow through may be installed as an option for aesthetic
appearance.
2. The pavers must be rated for HS-20 vehicular traffic.
3. Installation
a. Remove soil 5" to 15" in depth depending upon area. Unstable or
unconsolidated subgrade material must be excavated per design.
b. Compact subsoil and subsurface areas. Spread clean sand, leveling
course to depth of 1"-2" and screed level and set paver.
c. Allow soil mix to settle to 12" below paver surface and seed or plug
selected turf grasses per design.
G. Base material and subgrade preparation shall meet or exceed the requirements
of the City of Austin Standard Specifications for road construction.
H. Two (2) six (6) foot long City of Austin Standard concrete tire stops shall be
installed at the end of the access road six (6) feet in front of the electrical
control building, and fixed in place.
2.03 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A. The access road shall be a minimum of twelve (12) feet wide with one foot wide
flat, ribbon curbing.
B. The road shall not exceed a maximum slope of 12 percent. Refer to Specification
02800.
C. Access roads must have a paved turn-around area. Refer to standard lift station
site layout plan.
D. The road shall be constructed of either asphalt, concrete, exposed aggregate
concrete, or concrete pavers on suitable road base as design conditions warrant.
E. The access roadway shall be designed to accommodate a service tractor-trailer
up to 64 feet in length unless written documentation from the City's contractor
service hauler indicates that a shorter design vehicle will be used for accessing
the proposed site.

PART III - EXECUTION
3.08 TESTING AND INSPECTION
A. Testing
1. All materials used in the construction of an access road shall meet or exceed
the testing requirements of the City of Austin Standard Specifications.
2. During construction, the Contractor will meet with the City of Austin
inspector and inspect the project during key construction phases. Any
deficiencies identified must be corrected before construction may proceed.
B. Inspection
1. Upon completion of the project, the Contractor will meet with the City of
Austin Project Manager and inspect the project. Any deficiencies identified
must be corrected prior to final acceptance of the project by the City of
Austin Water Utility.

PART I - GENERAL

This section specifies the general methods and requirements applicable to the
development of a lift station site.

1.05 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
A. Site Selection
1. In the selection of a site for a lift station, consideration shall be given to
minimizing noise, odor, and other nuisance potential. The lift station site
shall be located at least 100 feet from any building. A buffer zone is
required between the lift station and its surrounding environment and
shall contain natural vegetation and any other acceptable method to
enable the lift station to blend into the surrounding environment.
2. The station site shall not be subject to flooding. Entrance hatches and all
vents shall be at least one foot above the 100-year flood level. The
Electrical enclosure/building shall be at least two feet above the 100-year
flood level.
3. The lift station site shall be well-drained away from any surrounding
structures and shall be easily accessible from a street or highway to
satisfy TCEQ 217.
B. Security Fence
1. The lift station site shall be enclosed by a security fence. All slabs,
equipment and utilities shall be located within the fenced area no less than
five (5) feet from the fence.
C. Access Road
1. The station shall have an all-weather access road with turn-around area.
Refer to Specification 02500 Access Road.

SECTION 02800
D. Easements
1. A separate recorded water and wastewater lift station easement is
required. The easement shall cover the entire site and include a three (3)
foot wide boundary outside and around the security fence. This easement
must be secured and recorded prior to final acceptance of the lift station.
2. A separate recorded water and wastewater utility and access road
easement is required. This easement shall be a minimum of 25 feet in
width. The easement shall be shown on construction plans.
3. Easements shall be marked with iron pins.
E. Emergency Generator
1. An emergency generator for providing backup electrical power shall be
required. The emergency generator shall be sized to run all equipment
simultaneously, including all pumps, blowers, odor control, HVAC,
instrumentation, lighting, and receptacles. Refer to Specification 16210
Emergency Generator.
F. Potable Water
1. All lift station sites must be provided with potable water service. A water
service extension may be required if water utility lines are not near the
site. The necessity for a water service extension will be determined on a
case by case basis.
2. The service line must be sized to provide adequate water flow and
pressure for wash-down purposes and irrigation of landscaping.
3. A reduced pressure zone backflow preventer (RPZ) is required at the
point of connection to the water utility main. The required unit shall be a
Watts Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Prevention System #009 with
freeze proof cover. Provide backflow preventer report prepared by a
certified tester indicating the device is installed correctly and operating
properly.
4. A potable water yard hydrant with a hose connection vacuum breaker
to prevent backflow shall be installed inside the lift station yard in a
convenient location near the wet well. The yard hydrant shall be a
Freezeless Iowa Yard Hydrant Model Y34 or approved equal. The
bury depth shall be a minimum of 2 feet. The hose connection vacuum
breaker shall be constructed of brass with hose threaded connectors.
5. A minimum of a 5/8 inch water meter is required. All fees and associated
installation costs shall be the responsibility of contractor or developer.
6. All exposed above ground water piping shall be freeze protected.
