FY27 Longleaf Hand-Planting Tuskegee National Forest

Site for planting longleaf trees

Location: Tuskegee National Forest, 73+/- acres in portions of Sections 15 & 16, T17N, R24E, Macon County, AL, as shown on the attached map.
This tract was clearcut in 2024 and 2025.  It was site prep sprayed in early July of 2026 and plans are to have it burned before planting.
Interested bidders may examine the tract at any time.

Specifications for 73+/- acres to be hand-planted with longleaf:

o    Vendor to provide labor only, containerized longleaf pine seedlings will be provided by the USFS, to be picked up at the Tuskegee work center
o    Plant on a 8’ x 8’ spacing; 680 trees per acre
o    At least 90% of the seedlings must be correctly planted according to AFC’s resource sheet “Planting Pine Seedlings”, which is available on the AFC website
o    Seedlings are to be planted between December 1, 2026, and March 1, 2027
o    Vendor to provide proper care and handling of the seedlings while they are in the vendor’s custody
o    Plugs should stay intact when extracted and during handling, with no loss of potting medium, and should never be allowed to dry out
o    Top of plug to be slightly exposed above the soil surface
