The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR) on behalf of the City and County of Denver desires to solicit proposals for the Food and Climate Justice Program. A total of up to $1,200,000.00 of funding may be available. Proposers may request funding ranging from a minimum of $150,000 and up to a maximum funding amount of $400,000 each, for a term of three (3) years and/or 36 months. CASR anticipates awarding 4-8 contracts. The City reserves the right to offer the chosen proposers one or more extensions of the Contract for up to an additional two (2) years and adding additional funding if it comes available under this RFP.
PurposeCASR is seeking proposals to advance food and climate justice in Denver through neighborhood-based programs that support local food production and programs that foster a resilient and vibrant food system. The goal of the fund is to support systems change approaches that help address the root causes of food and climate insecurity through the investment in food systems infrastructure, food environment, and community connectivity. Successful proposals will not only further access to healthy food but address the structural inequities that lead to unequal health outcomes and climate-related vulnerabilities. Funds are not eligible for the direct purchasing or distribution of emergency food. Successful proposals will prioritize climate smart foodways and center food sovereignty, defined as people’s right to heathy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems.
GoalThe goal of this work is to advance food and climate justice in Denver through neighborhood-based programs that support local food production and programs that foster a resilient and vibrant food system.
