Description
This project will be completed as part of the larger Compatible Use/Joint Land Use Study (referenced hereafter as the Compatible Use Plan or CUP) being cooperatively produced by SECOG and the U.S. Navy with input and support from surrounding communities. This work seeks to assist host communities of military installations plan for and carry out a future that is both sustainable and in alignment with the military mission, with the goal of alleviating and preventing incompatible development and/or other manmade or natural installation resiliency activities likely to impair the continued operational utility of a Department of Defense (DOD) installation. Because Groton is home to SUBASE New London, the primary submarine base on the east coast for the U.S. Navy and Electric Boat, the primary builder of submarines for Navy, the Town and its neighboring jurisdictions experience unique conditions and pressures and therefore take an active role in the development of the CUP.
