Description

The Chatham County - Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) on behalf of the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO) and Chatham County is requesting proposals to provide Engineering Design Consultant Services for the FERGURSON AVENUE STUDY, FROM DIAMOND CAUSEWAY TO SKIDAWAY ROAD.

The Study will evaluate the Ferguson Avenue corridor to determine the feasibility of incorporating pedestrian and bicycle facilities while maintaining roadway safety and functionality. The approximately 2.3-mile minor arterial connects residential areas, schools, and commercial destinations and currently experiences pedestrian safety concerns and gaps in multimodal infrastructure. The Study will assess existing and future capacity, operations, and safety conditions from Diamond Causeway to Skidaway Road using updated traffic counts, projections, and crash data, with consideration for access management and operational improvements. The analysis will include freight, commuter, and local traffic, as well as pedestrian and bicycle (active transportation) conditions. It will also evaluate tree canopy, environmental context, safety trends, and roadway features such as drainage and utility constraints. Anticipated regional growth will also be considered. The result will be a multimodal, pedestrian-focused, and freight supportive improvement strategy that enhances safety, improves drainage, preserves the tree canopy, and supports overall corridor mobility.
