Overview
Summary

The County of Mohave, on behalf of the Development Services Department - Flood Control Division, is seeking bids from qualified respondents for a construction project titled: Feldspar Basin Construction (ARPA) . This project consists of construction of a detention basin on BLM land northwest of the City of Kingman with access roads across BLM and private land owners. The work site is located in a portion of Sections 25 and 26 of Township 22 North, Range 17 West. The access roads are designed to have a 15-foot wide gravel section and a combined length of over a mile. The basin is designed to be formed both by excavation and embankment with soil cement lining on the upstream face and a soil cement inlet. All bids are due before 2:00 pm on Friday, October 25, 2024 .

The construction cost range of this Project is expected to be between One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) and Five Million Dollars ($5,000,000).

Background

The detention basin will provide flood control benefits to residents and structures immediately downstream and partial improvement of flooding conditions across the northern portion of the Kingman urbanized area. Impounded storm runoff may also contribute to the aquifer by infiltration into the ground for a short period of time after a storm.

Funds for the basin construction are coming from grants, supplemented by budgeted money from the Mohave County Flood Control District. The land for the access road and basin are in the process of being acquired from the BLM and from private owners. Construction cannot begin until the land is acquired and funding is finalized, which may not be until Summer of 2025. Construction must be complete by September 30, 2026.
