ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR STORMWATER PUMP STATION # 16- JACKSON TO JEFFERSON STREET ALONG SR A1A

The City recently completed a Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP), which indicated the need for a stormwater pump station between Jefferson Street and Jackson Street (pumps Station #16) to address flooding conditions.

This RFQ solicitates professional engineering consultant for design, permitting and construction administration for the design of a stormwater pump station to service the area described above. The design will be based on the Basis of Design Report (BODR), which will be provided by the City. The scope of services will include civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and stormwater design.

Permits are anticipated from the US Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department (BCEPGMD), and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), among others determined by the consultant.

The City of Hollywood is a beachfront community located in southeastern Broward County midway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Founded by Joseph Young in 1925, Hollywood is approximately 30 square miles in size and is Broward’s third-largest municipality with a population of roughly 153,000 residents. Hollywood has an average annual high temperature of 83 degrees and low temperature of 68 degrees.

Due to higher tide elevation, daylight flooding is a common occurrence that poses risk to vehicles and pedestrians, therefore the CRA/City has have have recommended pursuing additional design and stormwater pumps stations within the CRA district south of Hollywood Boulevard, based on the results of the Department’s Drainage Master Plan Model.

At the same time, FDOT engaged the services of a consultant to perform hydraulic studies to determine the cause of the chronic flooding conditions along and adjacent to State Road A1A between Hallandale Beach Boulevard to just north of Dania Beach Boulevard and formulated a pilot program where four pump stations would be installed by FDOT, thre of them located within the CRA boudaries. These pumps stations are currently under consturction and are funded with various agencys funding, including the City of Hollywood and the CRA.

These CRA stormwater pump stations, located from Sherman Street to Azalea Terrace, are designed to address chronic flooding along State Road (SR) A1A.

Pump Stations Under Construction
These stations will serve the following areas along SR A1A:

• Azalea Drainage System – Addresses flooding between Eucalyptus Terrace and Daffodil Terrace on the south side, and between Azalea Terrace and Jefferson Street on the north side.

• Van Buren Drainage System – Addresses flooding between Jackson Street and Virginia Street on the south side, extending to the end of the northbound Hollywood Boulevard off-ramp.

• Sherman Street Drainage System – Addresses flooding between New Mexico Street on the south and Sheridan Street on the north.

Pump Station in Permitting
A fifth pump station is currently in the permitting phase:

• Foxglove Drainage System – Will address flooding between Iris Terrace and Hyacinth Terrace on the south side, and between Eucalyptus Terrace and Daffodil Terrace on the north side.
