T he M i n i s tr y o f S oc i al D e v e l o p m e n t & Poverty Reduction pro v i d e s f u n d i ng f o r t he d eli v ery of c o mm u ni t y -based i n i t i ati v es und e r t he Community and Employer P a r t n e rs h i p (CEP) f u n d, a component of WorkBC .
The goal of CEP is to increase training and work experience opportunities in communities across B.C. With the help of this fund, communities see job creation, positive social impacts, economic growth, and more employment opportunities. Projects help reduce poverty while strengthening the labour market and supporting communities experiencing impacts because of economic change.
CEP projects must demonstrate respect for Indigenous values, culture and protocols, and be mutually beneficial to the contract holder and Indigenous partners.
2. Mi n i s t ry a n d Di v i sion a l O v er v i e w
The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction focuses on providing British Columbians in need with a system of supports to help them achieve their social and economic potential. The Ministry’s Service P l an pro v i d e s d e t a il s o f pr o g r a m s, s er v i ces, g o al s a n d s t r at e g i c o b j ecti v es.
T he E m p l o y m e n t a n d Lab o u r M a r k et S er v i ces D i v i s i on ( E L M SD ) o f t he M i n i s tr y i s r e s p o ns i b l e f or t he d e v e l o p m e n t , m a n a g e m e nt , a n d e v a l u a t i on o f a d i v erse a rr ay o f e m p l o y m e n t s e r v i ces. E L M SD’ s v i s i on i s for all British Columbians to realize their full potential through labour market and community attachment. Through inclusive employment opportunities and labour market development, job seekers are supported to improve their quality of life.
3. Community and Employer P a r t n e rs h i p f u nd
T he CEP fund co n s i s t s o f four s t r e a m s :
- J o b Cre a t i on P a r t n e rs h i ps s upport community-based projects that create w ork e x p e r i e n ce and training opportunities for e l i g i b l e clients.
- L a b o ur M arket P a r t n e r s h i ps support or g a ni z ati o ns and communities facing economic changes to conduct human resource planning activities and labour market studies. L M P a l so i n c l u d es t he E m p l o y er S pons o r ed Tr a i n i ng p r o g r a m that provides employers with financial assistance to support re- training for current employees whose jobs are at risk.
